My problem is I look so weird when dancing, even when I get the moves. I’m definitely overweight but my family doesn’t make healthy meals and I can’t change that, I’ll try to workout also while learning Kpop. Also, I want to learn it wi th someone else but I don’t have anywhere to learn and no one my age to do it with.

Thank you! These tips are super helpful but I do have one problem that I cannot get over and that is.. I cannot for my life look at myself dancing. Seeing myself in the mirror is a tough nut but filming myself is even worse. I get awkward and freeze up. Seeing myself dancing so weirdly makes me want to give up immediately. It is probably because of low self-esteem, but I want to improve my dancing and know I should somewhat monitor myself. Does anyone have any advice?

Second week of learning K-pop dancing! Wish me luck

i’ve been dancing for around 3 years, these are some things i’ve picked up: 1. watch the video many times - and i do mean many times. trust me this helps so much, like when i was learning the batter up dance break it was really easy for me since i’ve seen it a lot on my fyp so i could picture the dance clearly when doing the moves. 2. screen record or download the video and import it into an app like capcut. this may not work for everyone but i find it so so useful since you can adjust the speed to anything and its much easier to rewind and look over parts than if you’re watching on youtube. i usually learn the dance on 0.5 and work my way up (0.6, 0.7 etc.) until i reach full speed and am comfortable with the moves. 3. go over every few moves, it doesn’t matter if you’ve only learned 3 seconds of the choreography, just keep practicing that and add on once you’re fully comfortable with what you’ve already finished. 4. let it marinate! this is probably the most important advice i can give you. no one will look perfect after just learning a dance (unless you’re a professional and have been doing it for ages) so you HAVE TO let it sit overnight. there’s so many times i thought i looked awful during a dance then revisited it the next day and suddenly the moves were so much easier and i looked cleaner too. 5. film yourself. i don’t have a mirror so the only way i can see my dancing is to film it (i usually do it on tiktok since the audio is already there), import it into a video app and turn the speed down. you can check for cleanliness and for songs with very sharp lines (e.g lucifer or naughty) it’s useful for that as well. you can also paste yourself into the dance practice/fancam/whatever you’re using and watch that very slowly to compare yourself to the idol, but remember: 6. don’t compare yourself to others. by this i don’t mean never look at other dancers, just don’t compare yourself to the point of toxicity. everyone has different dance journeys and it might’ve taken someone 10 years to reach the level they’re on, so if you’re only 3 months in that’s an unfair comparison. don’t be too tough on yourself but keep an eye out for other dancers and see what you can take from them and their execution of a dance, you’d be surprised by how much you can pick up. 7. always be proud of yourself and how far you’ve come. there’s times where i feel burnt out and demotivated, but then i look at old videos and realize how much progress i’ve made compared to last year and that motivates me to keep improving. you are always your greatest competition, not anyone else. good luck with your dance journey. don’t give up and keep working hard <3
